Top (must have) WordPress Plugins

I’ve been using WordPress for eJabs.com for just over 3 months now. For those of you who don’t know, Wordpress is a great blogging software, that just so happens to be free! I have spend a great deal of time trying out & troubleshooting different plugins. I figured I’d try & save a lot of people the trouble by posting my top Wordpress plugins here. In alphabetical order:
Adsense-Deluxe - Advanced options for managing the automatic insertion of Google AdSense or Yahoo Publisher Network (YPN) ads to your WordPress posts.
Akismet - Default WordPress plugin for stopping spam
Counterize - Simple counter-plugin - saves IP, time-stamp, visited URl, referring URl and browser-information in database, and can display total hits, unique hits and other statistics in WordPress webpages.
Dean’s Permalinks Migration - With this plugin, you can safely change your permalink structure without breaking the old links to your website,and even doesn’t affect your search engine rankings.
del.icio.us - Bookmark this! - With this plugin you can add a “Bookmark this page on del.icio.us” link to your posts or sidebar.
Feedburner Feed Replacement - This plugin simply forwards all your feed traffic to FeedBurner.
Google Sitemaps - This plugin generates a XML-Sitemap compliant sitemap of your WordPress blog. This format is supported by Google, YAHOO and MSN Search.
Related Posts - This plugin will output a series of “related” entries based on keyword matching.
SEO Title Tag - This plugin addresses several limitations in creating search engine optimized title tags for blog posts and for Pages in the WordPress blogging platform.
ShiftThis SMTP Swift Emailer - For anyone who needs to use an SMTP server for sending mail on there blog, or if you’d like to use Gmail’s SMTP service, this plugin will do exactly that!
Smart Update Pinger - Smart Update Pinger replaces the built-in update ping functionality. Instead of always pinging when saving a post, the plugin only pings when the post has not previously been published.
Sociable - The Sociable plugin appends links for your readers to use those sites to the end of each of your blog’s posts, increasing your potential audience.
Subscribe2 - Notifies an email list when new entries are posted.
Ultimate Tag Warrior - A multi-headed hydra of a plugin. It allows you to add tags either through the Write Post page in wordpress in a tag box, on posts using an AJAXy box, and in posts using special syntax from external editors (or internally, if you’d like). From the write post page, you can also get suggestions for tags using the Yahoo! keyword suggestion service.
WordPress Database Backup - An easy-to-use plugin to quickly backup your WordPress database. You may download the backup file, or have it emailed to the address of your choice.
Wordpress Multi URI Ping - With this plugin you can easily ping Update Services with more than one URI when your blog get updated, Just Edit your weblog alternative addresses in Multi URI Ping option page in Wordpress admin panel and you will see alternative addresses in Update Services recent update lists when your blog get updated.
wp-cache - An extremely efficient WordPress page caching system to make your site much faster and responsive.

Rather than straining my eyes looking through every one of the plugins in WordPress Codex, I decided to browse through other bloggers Top 10 plugin list such as Gaman @ Sabahan’s, John Chow’s, eJabs’ and Circle Six’s, and here ar…
It’s a good list - I’ll also recommend Bad Behavior to run alongside Akismet, to prevent your blog being taken apart by spambots, and did you know that a V2.0 of the WP Backup plugin is available?
If you use WP2.1 you can set it to backup automatically and email you them at regular intervals. Mine backs up once every 24 hours & sends it to my Gmail, so I should never lose anymore than the last 24 hours of my blog is the worst should happen.

Great list of plugins. Have to install some of them. The adsense plugin is so easy and I wouldn’t be without it.
For fighting the spam I’m using Spam Karma. Very easy to install and configure.

Mat, excellent list. Thanks for the list. First time I see a backup solution.. being emailed is really nice. I have actually not started with wordpress and am looking at different options and configurations. This is giving me a good feeling already, that wp will be a great platform (provided I implement all of your recommended plugins!). steve
