Untwisted Stats

April 30th, 2007 by Matthew Jabs

For the first time ever, one of the sites in my blogroll has landed on my Google Analytics stat page.

The pie chart that displays where the majority of your hits are coming from has an entry from UntwistedVortex.com bringing in a hefty 0.46% of my visitors yesterday!  Thanks for the links RT.

In the past few days my traffic has really blown up thanks to someone Stumbling and Digging my recent article about Windows Vista.  Although my traffic has been steadily increasing, my posting frequency has been steadily decreasing.  My traffic is living on my archives.  Although that speaks highly of my archives, I really have to spend more time on blog posts in the weeks and months to come.  Having just moved in to a new home, I’m not short on things to do.  Also I have a full-time job so I can’t write posts from 8am - 5pm M-F.  Sometimes I have posts show up during those times, but I don’t write them during the day.  I write them the night before and date-stamp them to be released the next day during work hours; because coincidentally, that’s when most people surf the Internet!

Anyway, here’s the pictorial proof that Untwisted Vortex is bringing in the monster traffic!

The Great Google

April 24th, 2007 by Matthew Jabs

Although not totally down, apparently some part of Google’s search functions experienced a hiccup of sorts.

I was doing a search for “drupal” on Google.  Below is a screenshot of what search results were returned:

Although certainly strange, I guess even The Great Google can make mistakes.  They are human!  They are human!

Former Russian President Boris Yeltsin dies at 76

April 23rd, 2007 by Matthew Jabs

I was browsing the headlines of my local newspaper when I came across this headline.  I figured I’d update eJabs readers who hadn’t heard by posting it here.

Former Russian President Boris Yeltsin dies at 76 - “MOSCOW - Former President Boris Yeltsin, who engineered the final collapse of the Soviet Union and pushed Russia to embrace democracy and a market economy, died Monday. He was 76…”

Some other headlines include:

Virginia Tech students make somber return to class - “BLACKSBURG, Va. - Thousands of Virginia Tech students and faculty filled the center of campus Monday to pay solemn tribute to the victims of last week’s massacre - listening quietly as a bell tolled for the dead on the day classes resumed at the grief-stricken school…”

Jury finds S.C. man not guilty in sexually assaulting girls in underground bunker - “DARLINGTON, S.C. - A jury has found a convicted sex offender accused of raping two teen girls in an underground bunker not guilty of kidnapping, sex crimes and assault with intent to kill.”

Another Reason To Ditch Vista

April 23rd, 2007 by Matthew Jabs

As you may know, I moved into my new home this past weekend.

After being there for only 1 day, I had the Comcast guy over to hook up my cable TV & Internet.  I wanted to be prepared for when he arrived, so I booted up my computer (running the Microsoft Vista Ultimate operating system) and was confronted with this troublesome message:

“Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the
cause. To fix the problem:

1) Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer
2) Choose your language settings and then click Next
3) Click ‘Repair your Computer’.

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer
manufacturer for assistance.”

Because Microsoft has already pissed me off with their latest crappy operating system (see previous articles One, Two, & Three) I wanted to see if I could get around the message by trying a few tricks.

Since I didn’t really (purposely) change any hardware, I started trying to narrow down what could have caused this to transpire.  My wife & I both use the same type of keyboard, and I figured they were probably inadvertently switched without us intending, so I just swapped keyboards.  Sure enough, that resolved the issue!  Windows Vista would not boot because I had hooked up a different keyboard!

Let me repeat that for the hard of understanding:  “WINDOWS VISTA WOULD NOT BOOT BECAUSE I HAD HOOKED UP A DIFFERENT KEYBOARD!”

That is so unbelievable, it makes me want to puke.  The only reason I’m not wholly an Ubuntu user is because I am an IT Director, and am forced to use MS products to stay abreast the technology.  When users have issues, I have to know how to solve them…otherwise…I would complete ditch MS altogether.  That includes Windows, I’d use Ubuntu, and Office, I’d use OpenOffice.

Maybe someday I will never have to use a crappy Bill Gates product again.

They weren’t always this altogether unimpressive, but they get worse & worse as time goes by!
