Have you heard of cl1p.net - The Internet Clipboard?

April 19th, 2007 by Matthew Jabs

 Cl1p.net

The creators of cl1p.net have a pretty neat idea.  A clipboard that works over the Internet.  All you have to do is go to cl1p.net and type whatever you want.  You can then move to any other computer on the Internet, enter that same URL, and the text you just typed will appear on that remote computer all the way around the world (or next door)!

From the cl1p.net website, copy and paste between computers in three easy steps:

  1.  Enter a URL that starts with http://cl1p.net.
    • example: http://cl1p.net/consolidation/
  2. Paste in anything you want.
    • Some text or even a small file. Click ‘Save’ when done.
  3. On the other computer open a browser to the same URL.
    • You will find the information you entered in step 2.

Cl1p.net does not stop with text, but can also be used as a message board and can send small files, and can use Rich Text.  Here are some additional uses for the cool site:

  • Create a notebook
    • cl1p.net is a fast way to jot down notes. Give it a password so that only you can see it.
  • Have a conversation
    • Share your cl1p with a friend. Each of you can update the cl1p, adding their own message. It’s your own personal forum.
  • Create a community
    • Create a communityLink to other cl1ps. You and your friends can create cl1ps and link them together using the cl1p link feature.
  • Extend an online forum
    • By posting a link to cl1p.net you can add anything you want to a forum message.

If you have, or have not heard of cl1p.net, let me know what you think.  Could this be useful to you, and if so…how?  If anyone has had any experience using this free service, please…do tell!

Sounds pretty cool man. How did you find that one? Do you use Cl1p for your own use?

No, I haven’t used it much, but I no that some people will find it useful, so I wrote about it.

I could use it, but I have other tools in place for this kind of thing…but it could be very useful for the right crowd, and I know that there may be some of that crowd here at eJabs at any given time!

While that is pretty cool… it almost seems a little bit like a very basic wiki.

One of the few things I don’t like about this though (that I just discovered but could be wrong) is the fact that anyone who can get the URL could erase what I write or access the file. So, to me, I dont’ think I would use this for anything serious. I enjoyed playing around with it a little bit, but now after using it… I don’t think it is something I could find a use for.

Aside from that… it is pretty neat and very creative. Maybe it they have password protection or a way to go ahead and create a username, etc… it could be better. What are your thoughts?

I had those same reservations & even tried putting in some “variable” URL and found that I automatically came up with someone’s “clipboard” info.

I agree with you…it’s neat & creative, but I doubt I’ll use it much.

However, I do still believe it could be useful to a certain audience.

Without a doubt… good or bad, for what it means… it almost sounds like something my 9 year old would have fun with… communicating messages back and forth to his little school buddies. Sorta like how I would pass notes around… but here in 2007, kids can do it electronically.

I was at the website a couple of days ago. I figured it would be a good tool for transferring info from one PC to another (especially if one is not connected to the Internet) without having to use a CD or something to move it. I didn’t investigate how it would deal with files. I have a hotfix that I want to put on my son’s non-connected laptop and this might be a bit easier than a CD.

Hey guys I had an old laptop running XP Pro. A couple of weeks ago, every time I would connect to the internet via DSL or wireless, the hard drive light would come on - as if it were writing something to the hard drive. It would cause IE to run slower than dial-up. I looked in task manager and although the CPU usage was high, there didn’t seem to be a process listed that was using it. I used LavaSoft Adaware to scan on a regular basis as well as Norton 2005. I eventually gave up and bought a new laptop (Vista Home), which now has the same problem. It is obviously related to something that I copied over to the new computer from the old computer. But the things is, Norton Internet security isn’t picking up a virus. I used it to scan everything before copying it on to the new computer. Has anyone heard of such a thing or had the same problem? I’d much rather be able to find and remove the problem rather than restore.

Thanks!
