Increase Adsense Profits by using ‘Adsense For Search’

May 31st, 2007 by Matthew Jabs

If you’re not incorporating Google “Adsense for Search” into your Wordpress blog then you’re not making as much Adsense profit as you could be (***Not the Adsense ads, but the Google search on your own website***).  Don’t worry, it’s not your fault…you’ve just never heard “The Story”.  Let me enlighten you…

It all started many years ago when twins entered into this glorious world.  Separated at birth, Adsense for Content & Adsense for Search were raised with no knowledge of the other.  They both grew into fine young men and went about their lives in completely remote parts of the world, never knowing the other existed…until…Google reunited them!  What a happy day that was!  Finally, after all these years Adsense for Content & Adsense for Search are together again.  They’re together, and now they have a mission; a mission to make you a lot of money.

What is Google Adsense for Search?  From Google’s website:

“Google AdSense for search

When you join the AdSense program, you get access to Google AdSense for search, and that’s a good thing; adding a Google search box to your site means monetizing more web pages while offering your users an even better site experience. Visitors hang around longer, since they can search from right on your site. And since AdSense serves targeted ads on search results pages, you can make more money from your Google search box as well. Learn more about Google AdSense for search.”

So as to keep duplicate information to a minimum, I will not write the book on how to use Google Adsense for Search, instead I will point you to this excellent how to article on incorporating Google Adsense for Search into your Wordpress blog.

I have always incorporated Google search into eJabs, however, I always had it on my right sidebar, half way down the page.  I never received too many hits on it, so I moved it.  After moving it to the top center of my page (some of you may have noticed), I have increased my Adsense for Search revenue immensely.  Some days it rivals the money I make from Adsense ads.

Do you incorporate the customized Google search (Adsense for Search) into your website?  If not, are you going to now?  If you do, could you possibly increase your revenue by giving the search a better spot on your blog?

Wordpress/Technorati Incoming Links Broken

May 30th, 2007 by Matthew Jabs

I’m just gonna throw this out there…

Starting yesterday, the Incoming Links on my Wordpress Dashboard are not showing up.  Is anyone experiencing this problem?  I cannot see any new blogs that have given link-love, for that matter I can’t see any link love without going straight to the Technorati website.  My incoming links do show up there, but not in Wordpress.  Am I the only one?

I did a few Google searches for this and found to support post requests on Wordpress.org, but neither one had any resolution.  They did mention however that this is probably a Technorati issue & not a Wordpress issue, hence this post.

Here are the posts I found on the matter:

  1. Post number one
  2. Post number two

Please let me know if you’re having the same problem.  My Wordpress Dashboard Incoming Links have been gone consistently since sometime yesterday.

The Ultimate Linux Reference Guide for Newbies

May 30th, 2007 by Matthew Jabs

This article was inspired by BlogPaul’s migration to a Linux desktop operating system.

If you want to read why & how Paul switched from Windows Vista over to Ubuntu Linux, then to PCLinuxOS, read the following articles at Paul’s blog:

Goodbye to my old girlfriend: The story of how Paul ditched Vista for something different, something better.

Ubuntu help needed: Paul’s cry for help when Ubuntu began freezing up on him.

Linux for Christians?: Some of the reasons Paul left M$ for Linux, and some of the benefits of Linux over M$.

Linux 2007 / Internet 1996: Paul expresses some of his growing pain issues with Linux & some of the transition problems he experiences.

To help Paul & others who are making the leap to transition for M$ Windows to a Linux distro (pick PCLinuxOS, it’s currently the best thing out there) I will be listing a ton of Linux commands that will help the newbie learn to use the command line again! Although you don’t have to use the command line in Linux anymore, as with M$ Windows, it’s easier to understand the operating system if you have a grasp of the command line the beautiful GUI is based on. Just as M$ Windows is based on M$-DOS, Linux is also based on a command line language.

Anyway, here are a boat-load of commands that can help the Linux newbie understand the new world he has entered into:

Click here for The Ultimate Linux Reference Guide for Newbies

I hope this help with your transition over to Linux!  Thanks to the writers at LXPages for compiling these commands.

If you want help with networking in Linux you’ll want to read LXPages article entitled, “The Ultimate Linux Network Reference Guide for Newbies“.

Thanks for reading…enjoy eJabs!

Fast Food: Ads vs. Reality

May 25th, 2007 by Matthew Jabs

I was Stumbling Around & came across this page that I’ve always wanted to “call out” if you will.

Jeff Kay at The West Virginia Surf Report has an ongoing post about fast food ads which is awesome! You know how you see fast food ads & you’re always thinking, “Yeah right…the food doesn’t look anywhere near as perfect as that.” Well, Jeff has officially called out a bunch of different fast food chain restaurants by posting their ad pictures, next to pics of the actual sandwich you receive when ordering.

Here are some sample pics from Jeff’s website:

Ad Beef & Cheddar vs. Actual Beef & Cheddar

It’s a must see. Click here to view the post.

Thanks Jeff.

Wanna Know How To Read RSS Feeds?

May 25th, 2007 by Matthew Jabs

If you’re like me, you may be totally confused by which RSS reader to use. Online, offline, inline, out-of-line? Who knows?

RSS Feeds?

Well I’m glad you asked, because I know just the guy who can help us with this modern day dilemma!

K-IntheHouse over at ShanKri-la has an excellent post on this very subject. Personally I use Google Reader, but then again, I don’t use it that much. If I’m going to read something, I still prefer the old-school way of actually visiting the site. I know, I know…that’s blasphemy to a lot of you RSS guru’s out there!

While I don’t use RSS a lot right now, I know that I will more in the future, and so will everyone else…so we might as well learn what they’re all about & how to use them!

Thanks K-IntheHouse.
